Philly designer wins Michelle Obama design contest in Washington D.C.

Katie Ermilio, 23,  decided soon to be first lady Michelle Obama would look radiant in a silk, emerald green mermaid silhouette with a dove grey cloak. And so did Washington Post fashion writer Robin Givhan. Thus the Philly designer and former Vogue intern was chosen winner of the Washington Post’s Inaugural gown design contest.

The sketches and story were published in the Washington Post on Sunday.

Ermilio comes from a family of designers. In fact, her grandfather, Arthur Ermilio is best known for designing the iconic World War II bomber jacket.
